Fantastic stay in Tuscany

We holidayed at Casa Colomba 28 July-4 August 2015. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Casa Colomba is a very comfortable, well equipped, ‘homely’ place located just 5 minutes walk from the centre of the small village of Orciatico. Orciatico is very small but it does have 2 shops for basic essentials, a bar, and a restaurant. It was nice to stroll down into the village for the evening.
The house has superb views over a typical, beautiful Tuscan landscape. We enjoyed breakfasting with the view stretching out before us. While we were there the weather was pretty hot – at times almost too hot (34 deg) but the house, although not air conditioned, is well ventilated (all windows and doors have fine fly screens) and cool. I really enjoyed one afternoons reading, very comfortably, in the upstairs sitting room on a very hot day. We had a couple of ‘chill-out’ afternoons round the pool at nearby Agriturismo Signorini.
Casa Colomba is a lovely, peaceful, spot and is close (10 minutes drive) to Lajatico where there are several restaurants around the attractive central piazza. We ate there on a couple of occasions and also enjoyed a very good meal in Orciatico itself. We had a super lunch at the Agricola la Vallata on the outskirts of Lajatico. We also enjoyed a visit to Volterra – about a half hours drive away.
During our holiday we were lucky enough to get tickets for the first night of three performances by ‘local boy’ Andrea Bocelli. We saw the dress rehearsal for the full performance of Turandot. With Zubin Mehta conducting, it was a superb, memorable evening.
A really enjoyable, relaxing week – and hopefully we will be back.
