My second home in Italy
Casa Colomba became my second home in Italy. I stayed here before in the summer of 2018 and even twice during the summer of 2019. I wouldn’t go anywhere soon in Italy other than Casa Colomba. After that terrible pandemic year of Covid in 2020 our first thoughts where of Casa Colomba when we decided to go somewhere sunny for a month to escape all the Covid troubles. We were incredible lucky with the traveling possibilities at the time of our departure. We stayed from mid-June to mid-July and had perfect weather. In June you can just still see the flowers bloom in the fields and forest which surround Casa Colomba. Also we enjoyed the magical fire flies in the adjacent field every evening from the terrace. Casa Colomba is really something else and pictures can never capture the reality of the views. The Tuscan country is simply mesmerizing and you can see it from almost every angle in the garden and terrace and from all the windows in the house, even in the shower. It’s absolutely breath taking and the greatest asset from the house. The house itself is nicely decorated and fully equipped with everything you need during your stay. It also stays really cool, even with warmer weather. Also all the bedroom are equipped with air-conditioning for very comfortable sleeping. And this year all the beds got brand new mattresses for an even more comfortable nights rest. The pool is an absolute gem with enough sunbeds and parasols for the whole party. Filippo is the most hospital local host and always goes above and beyond to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Also the guy to go to if you want to have a real Italian dinner served in the house or a trip to a wine estate for a tour and wine tasting.
The hill top town of Lajatico is about a 10 minute drive away and can be seen from the house. Just a great bustling little town with a very lively square in the evenings which is great to visit in the evening for dinner and drinks. We are absolute in love with Restaurant La Vallata, situated a little outside Lajatico halfway on the road to La Sterza. Here you can enjoy real Tuscan food and wine in their beautiful garden. Also make sure you try a pizza from L’Aja in Lajatico itself, either in the lovely garden out in the back or as a take away. Casa Colomba is just a great place as a home base for doing wine tastings and to visit Siena, Florence, Lucca, Pisa or many of the amazing little hill top towns in the area. Closest medieval towns within a 40 minute drive are San Gimignano (best ice-cream in the world!) and Volterra.
Casa Colomba is just the perfect comfortable home away from home for anyone who wants the ultimate relaxing spot in the Tuscan country side with all the lovely places to visit around the corner.
